National Parks of Emotion Art Lab with Reimagine

I’m running another introductory National Parks of Emotion Art Lab to welcome new people to the project as part of Reimagine, “a nonprofit organization that draws on the arts, design, medicine, and spirituality to transform taboo cultural attitudes around death and grief, and to address the inequities surrounding how we live and die.” I love all of the ways that Reimagine does this, through festivals and hosting virtual experiences that “help make the world more human and connected.” The mission of the National Parks of Emotion fits right in.

I’ll lead you through the guided meditation that inspired the project, and teach you how to share your stories with me. I’ll also teach you how to make great abstract photos of the landscapes of the national parks of emotion you've been visiting, although you’re welcome to submit stories alone. Meet and connect with other participants through discussions, and get support and encouragement in the creative process.

Everyone is welcome, including teens and kids with adult supervision. You don’t need to consider yourself an artist or writer at all, you just have to be open to playing, taking chances, and collaboration. Previous participants always welcome too.

If you want to participate in the project, but can’t attend this Art Lab, you can make and submit a national park without participating in or watching the Art Lab if you’re eager to get started.

You must register on Reimagine to receive the Zoom link and attend. Hope to see you there!

The next live National Parks of Emotion Art Lab will welcome new people to the project and invite returning participants to keep going with me. I’ll lead you through the guided meditation that inspired the project, and teach you how to share your stories and create great abstract photos of the landscapes of the national parks of emotion you've been visiting. Meet and connect with other participants through discussions, and get support and encouragement in the creative process.

Everyone is welcome in the Art Lab, including teens and kids with adult supervision, and you don’t need to consider yourself an artist at all. You just have to be open to playing, taking chances, and collaboration.

If you want to participate in the project, but can’t attend this Art Lab, add yourself to my mailing list  and I’ll let you know when the recording is available. You can also make and submit a national park without participating in or watching the Art Lab if you’re eager to get started.

You must register on Eventbrite to receive the Zoom link and attend. Hope to see you there!

National Parks of Emotion Art Lab

The National Parks of Emotion Art Lab will give an overview of where the evolving project currently stands and where it might be going, inviting new and previous participants to collaborate, experiment, and brainstorm with different ideas and mediums.

The free Virtual Art Lab will include a guided meditation/visualization, mindful drawing, writing, and discussion, with further invitations and instructions to contribute to the project through photography, sound, and other mediums. Author Deborah Siegel--author, TEDx speaker, and founder of Bold Voice Collaborative, will make a guest appearance to teach writing techniques for the project.

Together we’ll map our emotional geographies of the pandemic to create a National Parks of Emotion system that will culminate in a virtual interactive installation later in the year.

You don’t need to consider yourself a "good" writer or artist to help build the National Parks of Emotions, or be interested in all of the mediums. You just have to be willing to be open to playing and taking chances, to connect with others, and to explore your experience of the pandemic through the creative process. People of all ages are welcome, including teens and kids with adult supervision.

Erospace Workshop

Tuesday, April 3, 7-10pm
Good for Her, Toronto

Eros is an essential part of who we are as human beings, but how do we connect with our erotic selves in a culture that often tries to shame us for them? How do we stay sexually alive? What do our metaphorical erotic spaces look like and feel like for us and how do we enter them? Erospace is a new community-engaged art project that asks questions about what we want and the honest nature of our desires.

There are new and important conversations happening every day right now around unwanted sex. In an inverse and complementary way, I want to start to have more honest conversations about the sex that we do want.

In this three hour hands-on workshop for women*, I invite you to be my one of my initial collaborators for Erospace. Together, you’ll join me in a variety of artistic experiments and discussion about how we access our pleasure and how that changes throughout our lives.

By being honest about who we are erotically, and transforming our stories through art, we can deepen our ability to talk about and accept ourselves and each other as sexual beings.

*includes ciswomen, transwomen, and non-binary folks, no artistic experience necessary.
